Need to work away from the office? If so, you can be just as productive, with access to most of the features, functionalities, resources and services you have in the office. Below provides further information on telecommuting.
Internet connection
Having a good Internet connection is imperative. A spotty or slow connection won’t allow you to work efficiently, and provide a poor user experience, especially if using services such as Microsoft Teams.
IM, Calls and Videoconferencing
Microsoft Teams - In Teams, when you click on the Calls icon, you will see a Dialpad available. As a reminder, rather than having a physical phone at your desk, you will now make and receive calls through the Teams application on your computers or mobile device.
Microsoft Office Productivity Suite
Microsoft Office – Microsoft Office 365 Proplus is available for free to students, faculty and staff to download.
Accessing Files
OneDrive for Business – If you’ve been saving your files to OneDrive for Business, you can continue working with them by accessing them online.
VPN - A secure way to access your files remotely
Department Shared Drives – You can access your department’s shared drive remotely by mapping a drive letter to it. Please note this requires you to connect to the University’s VPN. If trying to connect to VPN while on campus, the connection will not work. This only works from off campus.
E-mail
Accessing E-mail – Access to e-mail is available via numerous methods.
- Outlook on the Web – E-mail is accessible using a web browser.
- Outlook – If you’ve installed Microsoft Office on a computer, you can configure it to access your e-mail.
- Mobile Devices – Configure Outlook for mobile clients.
- go.barry.edu – Login to go.barry.eu and click on the Outlook Web App icon.
Ellucian Colleague and Student Portal
Colleague – Access to Colleague is available via http://go.barry.edu. After logging in, search for Colleague and then click on it.
Student Planning
Internet, Intranet and Software
http://go.barry.edu – go.barry.edu provides students, faculty and staff secure access to multiple sources of campus information and services. It’s the one stop shop for accessing the online resources and software. Please note this requires you to connect to the University’s VPN. If trying to connect to VPN while on campus, the connection will not work. This only works from off campus.

Other Systems
Some areas on campus use specialized systems. In the event there are issues accessing them remotely, please contact the IT Support Desk at (305) 899-3604, or submit a ticket for assistance with this.
