Need to work away from the office?  If so, you can be just as productive, with access to most of the features, functionalities, resources and services you have in the office.  Below provides further information on telecommuting.

Internet connection

Having a good Internet connection is imperative.  A spotty or slow connection won’t allow you to work efficiently, and provide a poor user experience, especially if using services such as Webex.

IM, Calls and Videoconferencing

Webex - Webex is an online meeting solution that can be used to communicate internally or externally via audio, video, chat document sharing.  The Department of Information Technology provides Webex to all faculty and staff to create their own online meetings, to which anyone can be invited. 

Jabber – Like in the office, you can use Jabber to send a quick IM to your colleague.  Jabber can also turn your computer or mobile device into an extension of your work phone, allowing you to make and receive calls using your work number. 

Voicemail

Microsoft Office Productivity Suite

Microsoft Office – Microsoft Office 365 Proplus is available for free to students, faculty and staff to download. 

Accessing Files

OneDrive for Business – If you’ve been saving your files to OneDrive for Business, you can continue working with them by accessing them online. 

Department Shared Drives – You can access your department’s shared drive remotely by mapping a drive letter to it.  Please note this requires you to connect to the University’s VPN.  If trying to connect to VPN while on campus, the connection will not work. This only works from off campus.

SharePoint – SharePoint is accessible from off-campus.

E-mail

Accessing E-mail – Access to e-mail is available via numerous methods.

Ellucian Colleague and WebAdvisor

Colleague – Access to Colleague is available via http://go.barry.edu.  After logging in, search for Colleague and then click on it.

WebAdvisor

Internet, Intranet and Software

http://go.barry.edu – go.barry.edu provides students, faculty and staff secure access to multiple sources of campus information and services.  It’s the one stop shop for accessing the online resources and software.

Other Systems

Some areas on campus use specialized systems.  In the event there are issues accessing them remotely, please contact the IT Support Desk at (305) 899-3604, or submit a ticket for assistance with this.
