 E-mail (Office 365)

Every employee of the university is provided with an e-mail address. Your e-mail address is in the format:

username@barry.edu

Your office PC is configured to access your e-mail using Microsoft Outlook, and can be used as your personal information manager. Your email account not only allows you to send and receive e-mail, it allows you to schedule meetings, update your calendar with appointments, and keep a listing of contacts.

Email accounts are hosted by Microsoft, you are provided with 100 GB of e-mail storage, OneDrive for Business 1 terabyte (TB) of storage, Office Online, and the Office suite can be installed on 5 personal devices. You can archive older messages to Online Archive.

A global address book displays a listing of all active mail accounts within the university. In an effort to prevent the university from being identified as a location of spamming, you are limited to sending a message to a maximum of 500 individual recipients at any given time, regardless of whether the addresses are displayed individually or combined in a personal distribution list. Distribution lists that contain over 500 e-mail addresses can be created by special request.

  •  OneDrive for Business

OneDrive for Business is Microsoft's cloud-based file storage and sharing service. OneDrive for Business is a collaboration tool where you can securely store, share and sync your documents across all your devices, and access them anywhere, at any time, both online and offline. You can also save Word/Excel/PowerPoint online documents into your own OneDrive space. These documents can be edited directly in the browser.

Employees should ensure their work data is stored in OneDrive for Business, and not exclusively on their local PC.

  • 100 GB email storage and 1 TB OneDrive for Business storage.

  • Personal distribution lists are limited to 500.

  • Lists over 500 can be created by special request.

 Campus Communications

Finding E-mail addresses and Phone Numbers

An on-line campus directory is available, allowing queries with results that provide phone numbers and e-mail addresses. For a more detailed employee search, utilize the Workday Directory.

Faculty and Staff

Campus wide e-mail messages for employees are distributed by Marketing and Communications and other designated bulk mail senders (eg. HR, President’s office). ALL employees are automatically and permanently subscribed to the Barry News e-mail list. While you will not be able to opt out of important messages (such as those from the Campus Safety, Human Resources, the IT Support Desk and Information Security Office), you can decide whether or not you would like to receive other types of messages on an ongoing basis, by allowing you to opt out of certain message categories. Some messages will include a link giving you the ability to opt out of receiving future messages in the same category.  To distribute messages to all employees, you will need to submit a New Project Request by visiting http://bucwis.barry.edu/marketing/. The Department of Marketing and Communications will review the message and send it to the Barry community if the content is appropriate for distribution. They will also post the content to BUCWIS if requested.

Students

All students are provided a Barry e-mail address, and it is the official address to which the university will send communications. Students are required to periodically check their Barry e-mail. Class distribution lists are automatically created for each class at the beginning of the semester, and are automatically updated throughout the semester. Faculty can send e-mail messages to their classes using class distribution lists.

Campus wide e-mail messages for students are distributed by Student Services. The Student Web is the best way to distribute stories of interest to students. Submit your stories as a New Project Request by visiting http://bucwis.barry.edu/marketing/.

Campus Communications

  • Use the On-line Directory to find names, numbers and e-mail addresses.

  • Messages intended for all employees can be submitted to Marketing and Communications at http://bucwis.barry.edu/marketing//

  • Student Services can send messages to all currently registered students.

  • Use class distribution lists in your email’s global address list.

 E-Marketing

E-mail lists for marketing purposes require special configuration and must follow specific guidelines for creation and updates. This is necessary for SPAM control. We are required to follow strict guidelines to maintain our whitelist status with the major e-mail providers (aol; yahoo; gmail).

Distribution lists are used for communication with internal users. Listservs are used to communicate with both internal and external users OR simply external users. If you need either one of these e-mail lists created, submit a request to helpdesk@barry.edu or visit Email Services.

No Spam

  • Help keep Barry from being blacklisted by following the e-marketing guidelines.
