How to connect to Barry University's Wireless Network

Follow the instructions below when you're connecting for the first time.
Each subsequent connection will be automatic.

Automatic Wireless Configuration

Instructions for Windows

  1. Click on the wireless icon in the system tray.
  2. Double-click Connect to Barry Wireless.
  3. Once connected, open a browser window and browse to a website (eg. http://www.barry.edu/).
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen, and you computer will be automatically configured and connected to Wireless Network.
  5. You will automatically reconnect to the wireless network once you return to a wireless area on campus, and do not need to run through the configuration process again.

Instructions for Mac OS X

  1. Click on the Airport (top right-hand corner) and select Connect to Barry Wireless.
  2. Once connected, open a browser window and browse to a website.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen, and your computer will be automatically configured and connected to the wireless network.
  4. You will automatically reconnect to the wireless network once you return to a wireless area on campus, and do not need to run through the configuration process again.

Note: The settings are saved for all profiles on the machine. This configuration only needs to be done once. Once you've successfully completed the configuration, your computer will automatically connect to the network. PC's connected to the wireless network will be automatically checked for an up-to-date anti-virus program, for an anti-spyware program that is installed and running, and that Windows automatic updates is enabled. PC's will not be allowed to access the network if found not to meet any of these criteria.     

Manual Wireless Configuration

Instructions for Windows 10

  1. On the bottom right-hand corner, right-click on the wireless icon and then select Open Network and Sharing Center.
  2. On the Network and Sharing Center window, click Set up a new connection or network.
  3. Click Manually connect to a wireless network.
  4. For the Network Name, type BarryUWireless.  Click on the drop-down menu and select WPA2-Enterprise.  Click Next
  5. Once the network has been added successfully, click Change connection settings.
  6. On the BarryUWireless Wireless Network Properties window, click on the Security tab and then click Advanced Settings.
  7. Check the option for Specify authentication mode.  Click on the drop-down menu and then select User authentication.  Click OK.
  8. Back at the BarryUWireless Wireless Network Properties window, click Settings.
  9. Remove the check from Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate.
  10. Click Configure.
  11. On the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window, remove the check from Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).  Click OK.
  12. Click OK all the way out to close all the windows.
  13. On the bottom right-hand corner and on the network list, click BarryUWireless.  If not selected, place a check on Connect automatically and then click Connect.
  14. When the Sign in window comes up, type your Barrynet credentials and then click OK.
    • Students: firstname.lastname@mymail.barry.edu or firstname.lastname@law.barry.edu (i.g. jane.doe@mymail.barry.edu)
    • Faculty and Staff: username (i.g. jdoe)
  15. You're connected!

Instructions for Apple OS

  1. Click on the Airport (top right-hand corner) icon and select Join Other Network.
  2. For the Network Name, type BarryUWireless (the name is case-sensitive) and select WPA2 Enterprise from the Security drop-down menu.
  3. For the username:
    • Students: type your Barry Email address (example: jane.doe@mymail.barry.edu)
    • Faculty/Staff: type your username only (example: jdoe)
  • Once you're done typing your username, type your password, and click Join.
  1. The BarryUWireless network is now configured.

Instructions for iOS

Below are the instructions for connecting the Apple's iPhone (first generation, 3G, 3Gs, 4, 4S) and iPod Touch devices to Barry's wireless networks (BarryUWireless). 

These instructions are valid (and have been tested) for versions 2.0 - 5.1 of the iPhone and iPod Touch OS.

Instructions for iPhone/iPod

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. In Settings, tap Wi-Fi
  3. For the Name, type BarryUWireless (the name is case-sensitive).  Click Security and select WPA2 Enterprise.  Tap Other Network to go back.
  4. Enter your Barry username and password to authenticate yourself on the wireless network and click Join.
    • Students: type your Barry Email address (example: jane.doe@mymail.barry.edu)
    • Faculty/Staff: type your username only (example: jdoe)
  5. When the warning window for the Certificate comes up, tap Trust to continue.
  6. Once you are connected, BarryUWireless will have a check mark next to its name.  You can push the Home button to get to the Home screen.

Instructions for iPad

  1. Tap on the Settings icon on the Home screen.
  2. In Settings, tap Wi-Fi and turn "Wi-Fi" ON if it is off.  Under Choose a Network, tap Other...
  3. For the Name, enter BarryUWireless (the name is case-sensitive).  Click on Security and select WPA2 Enterprise.  Click Other Network to go back.
  4. Enter your Barrynet username and password to authenticate yourself on the wireless network.  Click Join.
    • Students: type your Barry Email address (example: jane.doe@mymail.barry.edu)
    • ex. Username for Faculty/Staffjdoe
  5. When the warning window for Certificate comes up, tap Trust to continue.
  6. Once you are connected, you will see BarryUWireless with a checkmark next to its name.  You can push the Home button to go to the Home screen.

Instructions for Android

  1. Go to Settings and select Wi-Fi to turn on Wi-Fi Service
  2. Select Wi-Fi Settings
  • Note: If you are connected to BarryUGuestBarryUWireless or Connect To Barry Wireless, highlight the option and select Forget the Network.
  1. Select Add Wi-Fi Network and edit the options as follows (you may need to scroll down to see all options):
    • Network SSID: BarryUWireless (Case sensitive)
    • Security: 802.1x Enterprise or 802.1x EAP
    • EAP Method: PEAP
    • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2 (Note: NOT MSCHAP)
    • CA certificate: unspecified
    • User certificate: unspecified
    • Identity: Student email address (jane.doe@mymail.barry.edu) or Faculty/Staff username (bfreeman)
    • Anonymous identity: leave blank
    • Password: type your barry password
  2. Select Save

Instructions for Chromebook

Enable Wi-Fi usage

  1. Click the network icon  in the lower-right corner of your screen.
  2. Select your network status from the menu that appears.
  3. Make sure Wi-Fi usage is enabled, which will allow your Chromebook to detect nearby networks.
  4. In the menu that appears, click.  If you see, that means Wi-Fi is already enabled.
  5. Detected networks automatically show up in the menu.  To connect to a network, simply select its name.
  6. When you see the  icon in the lower-right corner of your screen, that means your Chromebook is connected to the network.

Connecting Google Chromebook to BarryUWireless

Note: Secure networks are marked with theicon and require additional information before you can connect.  If you're connecting to a secure network that uses password authentication, you'll be prompted to enter a password.

  1. Click on the wireless icon in the lower-right corner.
  2. Click BarryUWireless.
  3. For EAP method, click on the drop-down menu and select PEAP.
  4. For Phase 2 authentication, click on the drop-down menu and select MSCHAPv2.
  5. For the Server CA certificate, click on the drop-down menu and select DO NOT CHECK.
  6. For the Identity, enter your Barrynet email address and then your password.
    • For students: firstname.lastname@mymail.barry.edu or firstname.lastname@law.barry.edu (for example. jane.doe@mymail.barry.edu or john.doe@law.barry.edu
    • For Faculty/Staff: username (the username is before the @ symbol in your email address for example email address jdoe@barry.edu, username jdoe)
  7. Leave the Anonymous identity field blank.
  8. Select the option Save identity and password.
  9. Click Connect.
  10. When you see the icon in the lower-right corner of your screen, that means your Chromebook is connected to the network
