Overview
These updates improve the connection between Canvas and Colleague by using Colleague data more directly for course details, enrollments, and account behavior.
The goal is to reduce manual intervention, improve consistency, and make course information easier to trust across both systems.
What changed...
Course naming and SIS IDs
SIS IDs and course titles are now pulled directly from Colleague.
NEW Course title and code examples
- MBA-682-AP-26/02A: STRAT FORM, IMPL, & ENTREP
- EDU-567-01.26/02A
OLD Course title and code examples
- PUB-535-AP-2601A: RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES
Automatic cross-listing
If courses are cross-listed in Colleague, they will now be cross-listed automatically in Canvas. Course titles will explicitly show both course codes.
Cross-listed course title examples
- Summer I-A (7-Weeks) 2026 CAREER DEV/LIFE WRK PLAN (CSL-653-DL, CSL-653-BH)
- Summer I 2026 FOUNDATIONS OF NURSING CARE (NUR-319-01, NUR-319-BG)
Secondary and co-instructors
All additions for secondary or co-instructors must now be made in Colleague. These updates will sync to Canvas immediately.
Unified accounts
Account logins have been consolidated into a single persona. You can now use just your employee credentials to sign in, and Canvas will intelligently adjust your permissions—instructor or student—depending on the course you are accessing.
Term formatting
Term names now reflect Colleague exactly. For example, Canvas will display “Summer I 2026” instead of the shorthand format “26/02 - Spring 2026”.
Course dates and participation
Start and end dates are now automatically populated in Canvas based on Colleague records. There is grace period of 7 days past the assigned end date to account for grade submission and possible late assignments.
Note: To manually adjust these dates, go to the course Settings page and, under the Participation section, change the selection from “Term” to “Course.”
Real-time updates
Course creation, instructor assignment, and student enrollments now happen in real time as changes are made in Colleague.
