Beginning September 23rd, 2026, Barry University is replacing Blackboard Ally with UDOIT Advantage as the primary accessibility tool built into Canvas. Here's what's changing, why, and how to get started.

What is UDOIT Advantage?

UDOIT Advantage (pronounced “you-do-it,” Universal Design Online content Inspection Tool) is an accessibility assistant built directly into Canvas. It scans the content in your course, flags accessibility issues, explains why each one matters, and walks you through fixing it without leaving Canvas. UDOIT Advantage replaces Blackboard Ally as Barry University's primary course accessibility tool in Canvas beginning September 23rd, 2026.

What UDOIT Advantage is for

Use UDOIT Advantage when you want to:

  • Check a course for accessibility issues in pages, assignments, discussions, announcements, the syllabus, and uploaded files
  • Fix issues in place: heading structure, image alt text, table headers, color contrast, link text, and video captions
  • Convert PDFs and Word documents into accessible Canvas pages
  • Understand the why behind each issue through built-in explanations and guidance
  • Use AI-assisted suggestions for alternative text and link text
  • Track your course's overall accessibility as you add and revise content

How to find UDOIT Advantage in your course

Open your Canvas course and look for UDOIT Advantage in the course navigation menu on the left. If you don't see it:

  1. 1 Go to Settings
  2. 2 Select the Navigation tab
  3. 3 Find UDOIT Advantage in the lower list
  4. 4 Select the three-dot menu to its right and choose Enable
  5. 5 Select Save
