The Report Dashboard (Homepage)

Once you have logged into Informer with your username and password, you will see the Informer homepage. This displays your report list (dashboard).

  • Open a report by clicking the Report Title.
  • Use the Search Box to find a report by keyword.
    • Informer displays all reports that contain any part of the search keyword.
  • Click a Report Tag to limit which reports display.
    • Most reports are tagged by department or division. To see only reports for your department or division, click a report tag in the left panel of the Informer Homepage.

The Reports Listing has five column headers: Report Title, Options, Favorite, Created by, and Last Executed.

  • Click the Launch link to run a report.
  • Click the Report Title or Details links to view the report settings before running a report.

Launch a Report

You can launch (run) a report from the Informer Homepage or from the Report Details screen.

  • Click the Launch link located under the Options header on the HomePage.
  • For many reports, runtime criteria is required and you will be prompted to enter values. For reports without runtime criteria, the report will immediately execute.
  • Enter values for the prompts in the Runtime Parameters section.
  • Click on the “Launch Report” button after you enter the criteria.

Customizing Reports

The results of a report are in the format defined by the report author. You can modify the format with in-place (“on the fly”) customizations through column sorting, column reordering and column grouping.

Sort Order - Sort report results by clicking any column header. Informer will use that column to sort the data in ascending order. By clicking the column header again, Informer will reverse the sort and sort the column in descending order.

Column Positioning Rearrange columns by clicking, dragging and dropping a column in the desired location to reposition it.

Grouping and Subtotals - Display your results grouped (subtotaled) by any column displayed in the report.

  • Click and hold a column header, and drag it to the grouping box titled ‘drop columns here to group.’
  • A green check mark next to the column header being dragged displays.

 

The results will immediately return grouped by the selected column and a grouping indicator for that column will appear at the top of the report noting the column being grouped and the sort order.

  • Click the delete button (  )  next to its grouping indicator to ungroup the data.

 

Exporting a Report

Once you have executed your report, you can export the results to several different formats. Click the Export Results button. The Export Report Pop-up Window displays print format options. Select the desired format.

Charting a Report

Charting allows you to visualize report results in chart format for column subtotals. By default, Informer will show only the top 10 results of your chart. You can choose to show ‘all’ from the chart controls beneath the chart.

You can also choose to hide or display label values by toggling the Show Labels checkbox.

You can group results by checking a column header in the Axis Fields on the left side of the screen.

In the example below, the Academic Program is checked. The bar chart shows 22 students in the MS.OLL program and 5 students in the MS.IFTC program.

 

 

Click the pie icon to display the results in pie chart form.

 

Scheduling a Report

You can schedule a report to run on regular intervals. You can have as many schedules for a particular report as you like. If your report contains runtime criteria, you must provide that criteria at the time you create your schedule.

  • Click the Schedules tab.
  • Click the New Schedule icon.

The Report Schedule pop-up window displays.

 

You can set the date range the schedule will be in effect, what time the report is run, and how often in the Schedule tab.

  • Enter the date range that the schedule will be in effect
  • Enter the time the report is to be run
  • Click on a recurrence period.
  • Click the Report Parameters tab to move to the next screen
  • Click the Email tab to enter report recipients

You have several options when emailing a scheduled report. You can send the report as the body of the email or as an attachment. You can email the report to one or more recipients. The Email subject defaults to the report title, but you can overwrite it. Finally, you select the format of the report.

 

You can edit a report schedule to change its settings (if you have the correct security permissions).

  • Click on the Click the Schedules tab
  • Click the Title of the Scheduled Report to edit.
  • Click the Edit icon

The Report Schedule pop-up window displays and you can edit as needed.
