Importing Archived Files in Outlook

NOTE: Archiving to your local computer (for example, to your My Documents folder) is no longer supported by DoIT.  The new supported archive is to your Online Archive.

Before importing your archived files you will need to verify the location of the .pst file (archive file) on your hard drive. To verify the location, please follow the steps below. If you know the location of your archive file(s) please skip to Importing Archived Files in Microsoft Outlook 2010/2013.

 

Locating your Archived File

1. In Outlook, click File and select Account Settings.

2. Click Account Settings.

3. In the Account Settings window, select the Data Files tab.

4. Once you have selected the Data Files tab, please verify the name of the archive file(s) and the location of the file(s). By default the archived file(s) should be in your Outlook Files folder which is located in your Documents folder.

5. Once you have verified the location click on Close. In Outlook, select and highlight your archive folder.

6. Click on Close "Archives". The name may be different depending on what your archive file is named. Once you have closed your archived file(s), continue to the next step, Importing Archived Files in Microsoft Outlook 2010/2013.

 

 

Importing Archived Files in Microsoft Outlook 2010/2013

1. In Outlook, click File and click on Open.

2. Select Import.

3. In the Import and Export Wizard select Import from another program or file and click on Next.

4. Select Outlook Data File (.pst) and then click on Next.

5. Click Browse.

6. Select the desired .pst backup file and then click on Open.

7. Make sure Replace duplicates with items imported is selected and then click on Next.

8. Make sure your backup file is selected and select the checkbox to Include subfolders. Import items into the same folder in should be selected and then click on Finish.

9. A window containing a progress bar will appear or progress bar will appear on the bottom right hand side of Outlook. When it closes, or when the progress bar disappears, the files will be imported in your mailbox.
